Jennings County defeats Trinity

Jennings County built a 33-25 lead at the half and held on to defeat the Trinity Lutheran girls basketball team 55-49 on Saturday, snapping the Cougars’ five-game winning streak.

The Panthers outscored the Cougars 18-17 in the first period and increased their lead to 29-17 in the second before Trinity rallied to close to that eight-point deficit at the break.

The Cougars drew even closer, to 40-39 after three periods, and took a two-point lead in the fourth but couldn’t hold on.

Sydney Jaynes topped the Cougars (17-4) with 20 points, and Bailey Tabeling added 15.

Juliann Woodard led the Panthers (13-6) with 22 points.

The Cougars will close their regular season at home Thursday against Madison.

Crothersville girls can’t stay with Lanesville

Lanesville’s well-balanced high scoring polished off Crothersville on Monday night with the 71-28 Southern Athletic Conference victory, giving the visitors an 18-3 record.

The Eagles led 17-6 after the first quarter and 31-16 at halftime and kept stretching the lead with a 25-5 third-quarter eruption.

The Tigers fell to 5-11 on the season and did not place a player in double figures this time out.

Zoe Spangler was tops for Crothersville with eight points. Kennadi Lakins had seven points and eight rebounds. The rest of the Tigers scoring came from Grace Wilson, six points, Addy Cole, four, and Ella Plasse, three

Linzie Wernet had a game-high 19 points for the Eagles.
