As businesses and factories continue to reopen, Jackson County residents have started returning to work.
In May, 4,036 workers from a workforce of 23,871 in Jackson County were unemployed for a rate of 16.5%. By the end of June, that decreased to 2,695 who were unemployed for a preliminary rate of 11.3%.
This leaves Jackson County with the 11th highest rate of unemployment out of 92 Hoosier counties.
For comparison, the state and national average for June was 11.2%.
Other nearby county unemployment rates in June include Monroe 9%, Lawrence 10%, Jennings 10.5%, Bartholomew 10.6%, Washington 10.7%, Brown 11% and Scott 12.8%.
A year ago, 662 county residents or 2.9% from a workforce of 23,180 were looking for work in June.
