SEYMOUR
Mr. Thomas Joseph Fenton, 69, of Seymour, passed away Monday, June 15, 2020 at home. He was born in Seymour to the late Linden Marvin and Ida Josephine (Richart) Fenton.
Funeral services will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Philip Bloch officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 17 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 national health crisis, masks are mandatory within the funeral home as well as the church.
Tom was a lifetime resident of Seymour. He was baptized at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on March 4, 1951. He was a graduate of Seymour High School, class of 1969. On July 20, 1985, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Tom married Cheryl Fenton, who survives. Tom was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he attended Men’s Bible Study group and served as a church elder. For many years, he led a weekly jail ministry. He also served his community as a Cub Scout leader, soccer coach and teen league baseball coach. In his free time, he enjoyed watching sports, especially IU basketball and football, and Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers baseball.
Like his father, Marvin, and Uncles Bill, Oscar and Shy, Tom enjoyed a lifetime career in sales. His early years were spent working for his brother at Fenton Auto Sales. In 1996, Tom opened his own business, Apple Auto Sales, on West Tipton Street. His engaging personality and understanding of the public’s need for affordable used cars made this a lifetime career which suited him well.
Tom is survived by his wife of 34 years; children, Jennifer Nigg (Randy Clark), Andrew Fenton (Rachael Hickman); grandchildren, Molly Josephine Fenton, Linden Wade Hickman; brothers, Peter Fenton, James E. Fenton; sisters, Jane Ann Powers (Tom) and Susan Cusack; and brothers-in-law, Ken Ziegler and Van Ziegler.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
