Phil and Veronica "Ronnie" Schroer of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today.

Phil and the former Veronica Rivera were married Dec. 27, 1969, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque, New Mexico.

They are the parents of four children, Shonn, Amanda, Justin and Nicholas. They have three grandchildren, Zack, Camren and Ryker, and are expecting a granddaughter in January 2020.

Phil is from Seymour, while Veronica is a native of Nambe, New Mexico. They met in 1968 at New Mexico Highlands University, where both were students.

Phil spent 42 years as an educator in Indiana and New Mexico as a teacher, coach and administrator before retiring from Albuquerque Public Schools in 2011.

Veronica retired in 2016 after a career as a program administrator-school to work at Adelante Development Corp. in Albuquerque.
