Elizabeth Payne, 84, of Brownstown and formerly of Washington County, IN, died at 6:20 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Hoosier Christian Village. She had been ill for 2 1/2 years. She was a member of the Full Gospel Outreach Church of Salem.

Elizabeth graduated from Salem High School. She lived and worked with her parents on their farm and together they bought, sold and refinished antique furniture.

During Elizabeth’s entire life she was known as a caretaker. As her parents aged, she not only took care of them, but she took care of other elderly people, neighbors and friends. She cared for them, made sure they got to church, and would take them out to eat.

Elizabeth was born on February 12, 1935 in Washington County to the late Melvin & Laura A. Shafer Payne.

Survivors include her 1st cousins; Helen Feller of Brownstown, Catherine (Karl) Turmail of Vallonia, Wilma Humphrey of Salem, Stephen (Vicki) Payne of Nashville, IN, Earl Wayne (Billie Jean) McDill of New Albany, and Joe (Connie) McDill of Salem; several 2nd cousins also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia with Mike Tolliver officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will take place at the Vallonia Cemetery.
