A 16-year-old youth was airlifted to a Louisville hospital with head injuries following a crash reported to police Sunday evening.

Sheriff Rick Meyer said the Medora teen was flown to University of Louisville Hospital following the incident reported to police around 5:15 p.m.

He said the youth was driving a utility four-wheeler while pulling a trailer behind another four-wheeler on County Road 1150W when a vehicle traveling the other direction met them.

The other ATV driver said the vehicle was traveling fast and crossed the center of the roadway near the two, police said.

At some point, the youth’s four-wheeler left the roadway and flipped.

The motorist continued down the road and told police they did not see the wreck when they passed.

The boy was not wearing a helmet, police said.

On Monday, police were still trying to investigate the crash, Meyer said.

"It’s an ongoing investigation, but at this time, the other driver isn’t considered to have any fault into the accident," he said.

Officer Justin Amos is investigating the crash.
