Thumbs up to Sherry Bridges of Crothersville who recently received a Hoosier Hospitality Award from Lt. Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Office of Tourism Development. The annual awards are presented to Hoosiers for their high level of service in tourism-related jobs at hotels, restaurants, attractions and other destinations. Bridges retired earlier this year after serving as an organizer of the Crothersville Red, White and Blue Festival for 37 years.

Top manager

Thumbs up to Jennifer Pryor of Brownstown who recently was named the 2019 Indiana Multi-Family Housing Site Manager of the Year for Elderly Housing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Housing Service and Indiana Rural Development. Pryor is in charge of 37 units at Seymour Village Apartments II and has worked on the site for the past four years.

Life changing gift

Thumbs up to members of the Seymour Kiwanis Club for the recent $1,500 donation to the Hoosier Burn Camp.

Helping others

Thumbs up to the Brown School Ambassadors, a group of Spanish-speaking students at Margaret R. Brown Elementary School who help make the first day of school a little easier for new Spanish-speaking students. The ambassadors work to help new students understand how the school runs and where to get help as they need it.

Time to vote

Thumbs-up to the 55 people who took time out of their busy days to vote for candidates in the Republican town convention in Medora on Thursday and the 102 who did the same on Monday at the Republican convention in Brownstown. A related thumbs to everyone who put their names on the ballots to run for town council and clerk-treasurer seats in both towns.

Dog day

Thumbs up to the 81 furry, four-legged dogs who spent the afternoon of Aug. 10 sniffing new scents and chasing toys while splashing and swimming with each other during K9 Campers’ annual Summer Dog Splash at the Shields Pool Park. With admission, donations, a silent auction and a raffle, the dogs help raise about $520, which was split between the new Jackson County Dog Shelter in Brownstown and the Humane Society of Jackson County in Seymour.
