Owls get season started in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON

Seymour started its 2019 campaign at a familiar course on Tuesday at the Bloomington Country Club.

Nineteen teams made up the field, including seven of the Indiana High School Golf Associations top 15. Top-ranked Evansville North took home the team crown, outlasting Carmel 294-313. 

Westfield came in third with a 322 without their usual No. 1 golfer, followed by Columbus North in fourth with a 326 and Evansville Memorial in fifth at 344.

Floyd Central (350), Franklin (358), Gibson Southern (380), Beford North Lawrence (387), Evansville Central (389), Seymour (408), Terre Haute North (409), Vincennes Rivet (422), Jasper (423), Columbus East (424), Bloomington North (432), Bloomington South (435), Madison (493) and Edgewood (NS) followed.

Laken Waskom led the Owls with an 87 with Bridget Marshall trailing just behind her with a 91. Rounding out the scoring was Lainey Jackson (113), Phoebe Skidmore (117) and Rylee Knutson (125).

Seymour hosts its first home match on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Shadowood Golf Course against Madison and Scottsburg. 

Braves begin year with tri-meet

Brownstown Central finished third in its opening meet at Valley Links Golf Course in French Lick.

Springs Valley and Paoli also competed in the three-way meet, with Springs Valley winning with a score of 209. Paoli took second with a 214 just edging out the Braves, who shot 215.

Ashlyn Fox led Brownstown Central with a 45 and was followed by Ashley Schroer’s 55. Rounding out the Braves’ scores were Payton Ault (57), Lexie Satterthwaite (58), Cara Baker (58) and Kelsey Ault (59). 

The Braves host its first dual meet next Monday, August 12, against Mitchell at Hickory Hills Golf Club at 4:45 p.m.
