Supportive

Thumbs-up to the Seymour Oktoberfest board of directors, which recently created a community fund at the Community Foundation of Jackson County. The $25,000 gift was matched by $50,000 available through the GIFT VII initiative funded through Lilly Endowment Inc. and administered by the foundation. That means the new fund, the Seymour Oktoberfest Community Endowment, will make grants into the community in the name of Seymour Oktoberfest through the foundation’s fall grant cycle. Because the fund is endowed, only earnings on the fund will be spent, allowing the fund to finance grants in perpetuity.

State finalists

Thumbs-up to members of the Seymour High School FFA chapter’s parliamentary procedure team that advanced to the state competition, which is Saturday in Indianapolis. They are Charlotte Rust, Bridget Marshall, Jessica Blevins, Hiley Obermeyer, Jaden Begley, Lyra Claycamp, Abby Wiggam, Sydney Wiesehan, Maggie Newkirk, Kourtney Otte, Haleigh Brott and Katie Otte. Jeanna Eppley is the chapter’s adviser.

Company officials recently gave FFA advisers and officers from Brownstown Central, Crothersville, Jennings County, Medora, Seymour and Trinity Lutheran high schools a tour of the corporate office, a catered meal and information about potential career possibilities with the company.
