Coaching champions

Thumbs-up to Seymour native Teri Moren for coaching the Indiana University women’s basketball team to the school’s first Women’s National Invitation Tournament on Saturday night. The 1987 Seymour High School graduate has spent the past four years as coach of the Hoosiers, compiling an 82-53 record. Overall, Moren is 281-183 as a head coach, first at the University of Indianapolis, then at Indiana State and now at IU.

Winning with robots

Thumbs-up to members of the Immanuel Lutheran School’s robotics team for winning the Indiana VEX Robotics State Championship on March 10 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. A related thumbs-up goes to fifth-graders Ethan Alberring and Myles Chandler, who finished first in their division and walked away as VEX IQ Elementary Indiana state champions, and Immanuel coach Dallas Goecker, who was named the state’s Mentor of the Year.

Top bodybuilder

Thumbs-up to Seymour resident Landon Hickman, who won a trio of awards March 17 during a bodybuilding competition in Evansville. In his first contest, in the men’s classic physique division, Hickman was crowned both the men’s pure novice and men’s open Class C winner before being named the men’s open overall champion at the 2018 National Physique Committee Indiana Muscle contest.

Helping out

Thumbs-up to Rachel and Jerry Cravens of Seymour who continue to do what they can to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis, which their 20-year-old daughter, Megan Cravens, has had since birth. Over the past 15 years, the Cravenses have raised more than $111,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help find a cure for the disease. Walking for their hearts

Thumbs-up to students at Margaret R. Brown Elementary School in Seymour for walking circles inside the school as part of the American Heart Association’s annual Walk for Heart. The event is designed to teach children about heart-related health issues and get them active at the same time.
