Supporting the arts

Thumbs-up to local art teachers who had their students make and sell Christmas ornaments to benefit Southern Indiana Center for the Arts, which is struggling financially. All of Seymour Community Schools along with St. Ambrose Catholic School, Immanuel Lutheran School and Trinity Lutheran High School are participating in the fundraiser. The ornaments are being sold at various school functions and community events for a suggested donation of at least $5 each. That includes the Special Education Parents Advisory Council Holiday Arts & Crafts Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Annex in Seymour, Seymour High School home basketball games Nov. 21, Dec. 1, Dec. 8 and Dec. 16 and the Seymour-Jackson Elementary choral concert Dec. 7.

Entering the hall

Thumbs-up to Barry Cutter, the newest member of the Brownstown Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He has been a teacher at the school for 36 years and has served as a coach, including 19 years as the boys track and field head coach and 11 years as an assistant coach and nine years as a football coach and seven years as an assistant. He also was the boys strength and conditioning coach for four years, Booster Club sponsor for 13 years and Letterman’s Club sponsor for six years, and he coached at Brownstown Central Middle School for two years. As the track and field coach, he had 17 winning seasons, three Mid-Southern Conference championships, two MSC Coach of the Year awards, nine school record holders, 14 state finalists and two all-state athletes.

Blessings

I am proud of Todd’s Place. I was once a drug and alcohol addict. I am now 14 years completely sober. I have a good and productive job. I, too, turned to God for help, and he blessed me with a good, loving church that cared. I now am a minister and do private consulting. I applaud and support Kris and Angie’s heart and love for God for hearing and doing his works. I’m glad there are many who don’t experience this, but unfortunately, there are many who do. It’s only going to get worse and not better without these type of people. May God bless them and be with them.
