VALLONIA

Gladys M. Raby, 86, of Vallonia, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Salem Crossing. She had been ill for three years.

Born Nov. 15, 1930, in Morristown, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Hubert H. Spoons and Hazel Williams Spoons, both of whom preceded her in death. On Jan. 12, 1952, in Brownstown, she married Charlie W. Raby, who passed away Aug. 25, 1984.

She was a member of Full Gospel Outreach in Salem. She had been a teachers assistant, worked in home health care and was retired from Smith Cabinet Co. Gladys loved going to church, spending time with family — especially the grandkids — and she loved to cook and garden.

Survivors include her children, Linda (Troy) Darkis of Vallonia, Joann (Rick) Doyle of Bloomington and Rita (James) Pumphrey of Vallonia; and 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Wayne, Carl and Timothy Raby; a daughter, Pamela Sue Doyle; four brothers, John, Millard, Paul and Charles Spoons; and a sister, Helen Smith.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home in Vallonia with Toney McCutcheon officiating. Burial will be at Vallonia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Full Gospel Outreach Church.
