TERRE HAUTE

Yvonne Patricia “Patti” Burgess Scott, 76, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017.

Born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Chester W. Burgess and Elsie D. Sims Burgess, both of whom preceded her in death.

She grew up in Salem and raised her own family of four in Seymour. She was a proud mother, grandmother, aunt and sister, who was loved by all. She devoted her life to caring for others — family, friends and strangers alike.

She completed her medical assistant degree in 1984 and her licensed practical nurse degree in 1985. She worked in a variety of medical institutions throughout her career including Methodist Hospital, St. Vincent Stress Center, Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital of Carmel.

Her faith was strong, and she was part of a church community in every place she lived. As was her life — given in service to others — so in death she will continue to do so. It was important to her that others benefit from her passing so she donated her remains to the Indiana University School of Medicine. The family will receive her ashes later in the year, and they will be distributed per her final wishes.

Survivors include her children, Pamela Tabor, Robert Scott, Melissa Scott and Jim Scott; seven grandchildren; and her sister, Nancy Burgess Rickels.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Beatrice Burgess and Elsie Yeagle; and brothers, Chester W. Burgess, Jr., Duane Burgess and Charles Burgess.

A celebration of her life will be June 3 at Living Streams Community Church in McCordsville.
