James and Marion Slade of Seymour plan to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Sunday.
James Elmer Slade Jr. and the former Marion Darlene Dearing were married Jan. 24, 1946, in Princeton.
The couple have a daughter, Jayne Slade-Dashiell of Anna Maria, Florida, and a granddaughter, Kristin Dashiell Wood of Guangzhou, China. They also are the parents of two sons, the late James Dennis Slade and the late Bruce Slade.
She is retired and worked as secretary of Seymour-Jackson Elementary School for more than 30 years. She is a member of the Seymour Extension Homemakers Club and a volunteer at the voting polls.
He worked for Capitol Finance and retired from Home Federal Savings and Loan after working more than 30 years. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and was stationed in England. He was an active member of the Jaycees, the Elks Lodge and the Lions Club.
Both were members of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church in Seymour, where she was a Sunday school teacher and he served as treasurer. They now attend Freetown United Methodist Church.
