GIRLS GOLF

Sectional play set to begin

SCOTTSBURG — Demi Oaks shot a 48 to help the Trinity Lutheran girl’s golf team shoot 210 and place second in a three-way match at Westwood Golf Course on Thursday.

Scottsburg placed first with a score of 204, and Clarksville shot 263.

Macy Taylor shot 52, Morgan Gabbard 54 and Jessica Fleenor 56 as the Cougars finished the regular season with a record of 8-13.

The Cougars, along with Seymour and Brownstown Central, will play in the sectional at Otis Park in Bedford on Saturday.

Seymour and Eastern (Pekin) will tee off beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Brownstown, Trinity and Springs Valley players will begin their rounds at 9:30, and Bedford North Lawrence and Mitchell, and individuals from Paoli and Salem will begin at 10:30 a.m.

VOLLEYBALL

Braves top Bulls Dogs

COLUMBUS — The Brownstown Central volleyball team bested Columbus North in four games, 18-25, 25-17, 25-9, 25-8 on Thursday.

Danielle Meyer led the Braves’ hitting unit making 30 on 32 attempts with 13 kills, while fellow-senior Morgan Wehmiller had 24 hits on 31 tries and eight kills.

Wehmiller was perfect from the line, making all 21 serves with two aces.

The Braves (11-6) had a strong night serving, making 98 of 105 with three aces.

BOYS TENNIS

Brownstown handles Eastern (Pekin)

BROWNSTOWN — The Brownstown Central boys tennis team dropped a single match in a 4-1 win over visiting Mid-Southern Conference foe Pekin on Thursday.

Following a first set loss to the Musketeers’ Mike Smith and Sawyer Starett, the No. 1 doubles team of Riley Carlin and Sam Hoff finished strong coming up with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2) win.

At No. 2 singles, Coel Brock defeated the Musketeers’ Payton Sparks 6-1, 6-1.

The Braves’ Kent Criminger picked up a No. 3 singles victory of Clayton Purlee 6-1, 6-1.

Sy Zickler and Ethan Carlin remain undefeated on the season after beating the Musketeers’ Mason Moore and Kle McClellan 6-0, 6-0.

The Braves are 13-2.

East sweeps Owls

SEYMOUR — The Seymour boys tennis team couldn’t muster a victory in a 5-0 loss to Hoosier Hills Conference rival Columbus East on Thursday.

At No. 2 singles, Ty McCory dropped the first set 6-1 before battling in the second set and losing 6-4.

the No. 2 doubles team of Sam Voss and Hao Li fell to the Olympians’ Daniel Kuhlman and Austin Guse 6-4, 6-2 in another close match.

With the loss, the Owls fall to 2-8 on the season.

BOYS SOCCER

Owls add conference win

The Seymour boys soccer team’s Renato Castillo came up with the game-winning goal off an assist by Daniel Hartman in a 2-1 victory against  Madison on Thursday.

Earlier in the game, the Owls’ Martin Sebastian netted a score off a pass from Brantley Adams.

The Owls offense had plenty of opportunities on the night, out-shooting the Cubs 30-9.

In goal, Austin Hatfield recorded three saves for the Owls.

The Owls are 9-3-1 and 2-2-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference.

GIRLS SOCCER

Salem tops Cougars

SALEM — The Trinity Lutheran girls soccer team fell to Salem 4-1 on Thursday in a game of possession.

Cougars sophomore Maddie Roark notched the lone goal in the contest as her team was out-shot 25-6 on the evening.

In goal, Piper Acton had 17 saves for the Cougars.

With the loss, the Cougars move back to .500 at 5-5.
