Meeting to discuss district’s design rules
Seymour’s Downtown Review Board, Seymour Main Street and Indiana Landmarks have partnered on a project to develop design guidelines for the Seymour Historic District.
The public is invited to learn more about the design guidelines and offer input at a public meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at Seymour City Hall. A draft is available for review on the Seymour Main Street website, seymourmainstreet.org.
Established in 2011, the Downtown Review Board is responsible for reviewing proposed alterations to buildings, demolition and new construction within the downtown historic district.
The design guidelines will be used by the review board to help evaluate proposed work within the designated historic district, which includes the core downtown commercial area of Seymour.
The other role of the design guidelines is to provide information to owners of historic buildings — both within and outside of the historic district — about best practices when maintaining or rehabilitating their buildings.
Seymour Main Street’s Design Committee is chaired by Tom Goecker, Seymour Main Street president, and includes the following members: Suzi Judd, Jim Noelker, Kristen Brasher, Becky Brewer, Darnell Dukes, Melody Hageman, Linda Jordan and John Wiethoff.
