Body of Columbus missing man recovered from Grandview Lake

The body of Richard Chaille, 70, of Columbus was located and recovered at 5 a.m. Thursday by local fire department personnel, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Law Enforcement. 

An exact cause of death is pending autopsy results.

Indiana Conservation Officers began searching for Chaille who was last seen in the water at Grandview Lake on Wednesday morning.

The search involved the use of boats and side-scan sonar.

At approximately 11:14 a.m., responders were notified a man was in the water near his boat when he went under and did not resurface. The man was not wearing a lifejacket at the time of the incident.

Conservation Officers are being assisted by the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Southwest Volunteer Fire Department, Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department, Columbus Township Fire Department and Columbus Regional Heath.
