Three local conferences to have different look in fall

The conferences that Seymour, Brownstown Central and Medora play in will have a different look this fall, and Seymour’s football team will be playing in a different sectional.

The Hoosier Hills Conference, of which Seymour is a member, and the Mid-Southern Conference, of which Brownstown Central is a member, are both losing one member, while the Southern Roads Conference, of which Medora is a member, is adding another school.

Madison announced last fall it was leaving the HHC effective the end of the 2020-21 school year.

Kirk Manns, athletic director at Seymour High School, said no new schools have applied for membership into the HHC.

Seymour, Bedford North Lawrence, Columbus East, Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, Jennings County and New Albany will make up the HHC for the 2021-22 school year.

Clarksville announced during the winter it is leaving the MSC effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year.

Mark DeHart, athletic director at Brownstown Central High School, said Madison applied for membership to the MSC during a conference meeting in February.

Its application was tabled by the principals, so Brownstown Central, Austin, Charlestown, Corydon Central, Eastern (Pekin), North Harrison, Salem, Scottsburg and Silver Creek will make up the conference for the 2021-22 school year.

Indian Creek will replace Clarksville on Brownstown’s football schedule this fall.

The SRC is adding a seventh school to its membership beginning this fall. Seven Oaks Classical School in Ellettsville is joining current members Medora, Cannelton, Columbus Christian, Evansville Christian, Madison Christian and Union Dugger.

Pleasant View Christian School in Montgomery applied for SRC membership, but its application was denied.

Jacob Dunn, athletic director at Crothersville High School, said there aren’t any changes for the Tigers and the Southern Athletic Conference.

Crothersville, Borden, Henryville, Lanesville, New Washington and South Central will continue to make up the SAC.

Ryan Cremeans, athletic director at Trinity Lutheran High School, said Trinity will remain an independent.

“We would be interested in joining a conference if the opportunity arose and it made sense for the conference and for Trinity Lutheran,” he said. “As of now, we are staying independent for the foreseeable future.”

Brad Dickey takes over as athletic director at Trinity Lutheran on June 1, and Cremeans said he has not talked to Dickey about joining a conference.

Last week, the Indiana High School Athletic Association announced sectional assignments for football, volleyball, boys and girls basketball and boys and girls soccer for the 2021-22 school year.

Seymour’s football team has been moved to Sectional 16, where it will join Bedford North Lawrence, Floyd Central, Jeffersonville and New Albany. Columbus East replaces Seymour in Sectional 14 with Franklin, New Palestine and Whiteland remaining in that sectional.

Seymour will remain in the same sectionals as last year in boys and girls basketball, volleyball and boys and girls soccer.

Brownstown’s football team will remain in Class 3A Sectional 31, and the Braves will remain in the same sectionals as last year in boys and girls basketball and volleyball.

Trinity Lutheran, Crothersville and Medora will remain in the same sectionals in boys and girls basketball. Medora hopes to field a girls basketball team this coming season.
