Dollar General will open its third location in Seymour next month.
The company will occupy the building at 113 S. Broadway St. that previously housed a Family Video, which closed in 2019, and a Marco’s Pizza, which closed in 2018.
The property was purchased by KAH V LLC of Glenview, Illinois, for $630,000, according to a sales disclosure filed with the Jackson County Auditor’s Office.
Renovation of the 7,048-square-foot building is underway, and the store is expected to open in early February, said Dollar General spokeswoman Mary Kathyrn Colbert.
The other two Dollar General locations in Seymour at 1236 E. Tipton St. in Jackson Park and 1111 W. Towne Plaza will remain open, she said.
Colbert said the decision to open the new store was customer-driven.
“The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice as we generally serve customers within a 3- to 5-mile radius or 10-minute drive,” she said. “We also take competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.”

All Dollar General stores sell name-brand and private brand merchandise at low prices. That includes food, health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal items and clothing.
The company also supports the communities it serves through its Dollar General Literacy Foundation, awarding grants each year to nonprofit organizations, schools and libraries.
