The Peoples Bank promotes three

The Peoples Bank recently announced the promotion of three employees from various divisions throughout the bank.

Following in her grandfather and father’s footsteps and becoming a third-generation banker, Julie Cornett has been promoted to senior vice president, finance and accounting/auditor/head compliance officer, according to a news release from President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Norman.

She has been with the bank since January 1994, starting as the internal auditor and compliance officer. She was later promoted to assistant vice president and vice president.

Cornett, who lives in North Vernon, is originally from Baudette, Minnesota. She is a 1989 graduate of the University of North Dakota, receiving a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Brian Sommers, who started as a loan officer at the bank in March 1989, has grown through the ranks to become branch manager, assistant vice president and vice president, leading up to his new position as senior vice president/chief lending officer/security officer.

He is a 1978 graduate of Brownstown Central High School and a 2000 graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.

Bryan Stahl, a Brownstown native having graduated from Brownstown Central High School in 1994, joined the bank as a part-time teller while attaining his degree from the University of Southern Indiana in May 1997.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree, he became a full-time employee of the bank and started working within the information technology department. He was later promoted to assistant vice president and then to vice president before accepting the position of senior vice president/operations officer/IT manager.

While working, he returned to the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 2011.

The promotions became effective Sept. 9.
