Braves inducting DeHart into Athletic Hall of Fame

Brownstown Central High School will induct former athletic director Mark DeHart into the Brownstown Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame between the junior varsity and varsity game boys basketball game on Friday. This is expected to take place around 7 p.m.

He was a Brownstown Central Community School Corp. employee for 28 years, the BCHS athletic director for 27 years, the BCHS assistant principal for 12 years, a BCHS varsity boys basketball coach and a BCHS English teacher.

During his helm as AD, BCHS won 70 sectional championships, 23 regional championships, 11 semistate championships and one state volleyball championship for a total of 105 team championships. BCHS also had an individual track and field state champion, an individual golf state champion and four IHSAA mental attitude award winners in boys golf (two), girls basketball and boys basketball during his tenure.

Scottsburg’s Toppe among Colts HS Man of the Year finalists

Lucas Toppe, a senior wide receiver at Scottsburg High School, was a finalist for the Colts High School Man of the Year. This award goes throughout Indiana, and Toppe was in the final four.

Toppe caught 29 receptions for 607 yards and hauled in seven touchdowns during the 2023 football season.

Aiden Beadles of South Putnam took home the award, which was announced Jan. 2.
