The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has announced their support for a Kids Only Book Club to meet at the Brownstown library, 120 E. Spring St.

The club will be an after-school literacy group for children in pre-K to second grade. Each session will begin by reading a pre-selected title and then children will participate in a book discussion, according to a news release from the library.

During the discussion, children will be introduced to book terminology including title, author and illustrator, and review new vocabulary from the text. After the discussion, individuals will work on STEAM projects that tie in with the book selection.

Participants will develop a deeper understanding of what they read through discussion. Reading out loud can help children learn new vocabulary and correct pronunciation. Book clubs allow children to have a voice and share their thoughts about books with their peers. STEAM activities allow children a hands-on opportunity to further explore some of the concepts from book selections.

Every child who participates will get to keep copies of their books to share with their family and friends, thanks to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

The club plans to meet at the library from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 30, Oct. 28, Nov. 25, Dec. 16, Jan. 27, Feb. 24, March 31, April 28 and May 19.

The program is limited to 20 participants. Registration is required and may be done by calling 812-358-2853.
