American Legion national commander to visit Seymour

American Legion National Commander Daniel J. Seehafer will be touring Indiana next week.

That includes a stop in Seymour at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at American Legion Post 89, 400 W. Second St.

The five-day tour will allow Seehafer to witness firsthand how Indiana supports active duty members, reverse duty members, the National Guard and veterans alike. The trip also will allow him to accelerate his message about suicide prevention through the Be the One campaign and other American Legion initiatives in Indiana.

Accompanying Seehafer will be Indiana State Commander Robert “Bob” Oeth from Elberfeld, Indiana National Executive Committee member Kenny Cooper of Indianapolis and Indiana State Membership Chairman David Miller of Fort Wayne.

Seehafer was elected national commander on Aug. 31, 2023, in Charlotte, North Carolina, during the 104th national convention.

An ordained minister from Wisconsin, he earned his American Legion eligibility through service in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve, where he served as a military chaplain. Seehafer, a member of American Legion Post 157 in Horicon, Wisconsin, served in a number of American Legion offices at every level, including national chaplain and commander of the Department of Wisconsin.
