‘Super foods’ program set at Schneck

Dr. Steve Windley with Schneck Integrative Medicine plans to present a program about “super foods” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 14 in the Schneck Auditorium at 411 W. Tipton St., Seymour.

Windley will walk participants through an assortment of super food items (even a few super drinks) and super villains to watch out for and also suggest alternatives, known as sidekicks, for the pickiest palates.

“The term ‘super food’ represents such a wide variety of food items, including beans, spinach, tomatoes, yogurt, walnuts and green tea,” Windley said. “You probably already have several of these in your kitchen and don’t even realize it. Even red wine and chocolate make the list. Those already following a healthy diet can still stand to make a few tweaks. The impact super foods have on our bodies is just incredible.”

Super foods are packed with higher nutrients per calorie as compared to other foods, according to a news release from Schneck Foundation, which is sponsoring the free program.

The addition of these unprocessed foods rich in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants into your health and wellness plan provides an abundance of benefits for both men and women. They power our brains, fuel our bodies, lower cholesterol and protect against heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes and respiratory infections. Some even improve our moods.
