MEDORA — HOPE Medora Goes Pink has raised more than $280,000 to date for those affected by all types of cancer.
The 15th annual cancer awareness event, which funds that effort, is set to start at 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Medora Christian Church, 756 S. George St. Booths are scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., while food booths will open an hour later.
Schneck Medical Center will again offer reduced prices for metabolic profile, prostate cancer and thyroid screenings in the 237 building of the church. They will also be offering a free bone density screening.
The Seymour hospital also will provide information about nutrition and CT lung screenings in addition to breast exam cards and blood pressure and oxygen level screenings. Also, the Medora Community Lions Club will be offering free eye screenings. Advanced Audio & Hearing Care also will be present.
Also in the 237 Building, there will be a silent auction, registration for door prizes, information about Medora’s historical sites, a Wall of Hope display and an opportunity to post ribbons, pictures and messages.
Live music will start at 8:30 a.m. with Clarence Brown of Bedford and run through 3 p.m. on the stage at George and Main streets.
Other musicians schedule to perform include Landon Lee and his grandmother Joyce Adkins at 9 a.m.; the Medora Pentecostal praise team at 10 a.m.; Lee, an Elvis impersonator, at 10:45 a.m.; Mark Vice at 11 a.m.; Dark Hollow Duo featuring Daryl Robinson and Ken Todd at 12:45 p.m.; and Rocky Road Bluegrass Band featuring Melinda Fleenor, Paul Williams, Scott Davis, Steve Bastin and Faron Livingston at 2 p.m.
A 5K walk/run will commence at 9 a.m. Medals will be awarded to all participants who cross the finish line. The cost to register is $20, which includes a T-shirt.
Registration for baby, prince and princess and king and queen contests will open at 9:45 a.m. at Medora Christian Church with the contests to start at 10:30 a.m.
The Cross for a Cause Relay will start at 11 a.m. at Bundy Brothers & Sons Feed Mill on David Street.
Other activities include Bower’s Barrel rides for children for 50 cents from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; wagon rides to the historic Medora Covered Bridge and Medora Brick Kilns from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and a cruise-in/car show from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The day will end with the Pink Parade at 3 p.m. Medora High School boys basketball coach Mark Morin will be the grand marshal. Morin also is head coach of the Medora Timberjacks, a men’s semi-pro basketball team that plays in The Basketball League.
