The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign is an annual Jackson County Christmas tradition.
Each year, community members volunteer to collect donations in red kettles located at the Seymour Walmart. Donations provide needed help for Jackson County families throughout the year through the Salvation Army’s Jackson County Service Extension Unit.
Volunteers may participate by scheduling bell ringing shifts at registertoring.com.
The website allows people to choose a date, a location, see available shifts and choose their desired time. Be sure to specify which door is preferred, the grocery door or the pharmacy door. Two-hour shifts are recommended. Suggestions for successful ringing are available on the website.
Last year, more than 200 volunteers participated in raising $20,323.99 during 298 hours of ringing at the Walmart Supercenter at 1600 E. Tipton St., Seymour. Individuals and groups are always welcome to ring.
Last year’s groups included Aisin U.S.A. Manufacturing, Seymour First United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club of Seymour, St. Ambrose School, Emmanuel Church-Seymour Campus, Jackson County Bank, Trinity United Methodist Church, City of Seymour Mayor’s Office, Cummins Seymour Engine Plant, Seymour Rotary Club, American Heritage Girls, Jackson County Purdue Club, First Baptist Church of Crothersville, Boys and Girls Club of Seymour and 96.3 WJAA.
The Red Kettle Campaign will begin Saturday, Nov. 23. Two- hour ringing shifts are available 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Ringing will continue through Tuesday, Dec. 24, (excluding Sundays and Thanksgiving Day).
The Jackson County Service Extension Unit of the Salvation Army is based at Emmanuel Church-Seymour Campus. Monies are disbursed according to Salvation Army guidelines on a monthly basis. Through September, 138 individuals have been assisted in 2024. Local Salvation Army representatives may be contacted at 812-530-6681.

“It is the Red Kettle volunteers that make Salvation Army’s service to Jackson County possible,” Hoag said. “When volunteers are at the red kettle, shoppers donate generously. God bless you as you serve your community by ringing at the red kettle.”
