BROWNSTOWN — The Brownstown Town Council gave tentative approval to a $2.5 million budget for 2025 during a recent meeting at town hall.
The estimated budget includes general fund $1,407,046; debt service, $42,833; local road and street, $36,600; motor vehicle highway, $302,512; park and recreation, $149,000; cemetery, $52,100; cumulative capital improvement, $15,000; and cumulative capital development, $60,000.
This year’s certified budget for those line items is general fund, $1,336,450; debt service, $43,270; local road and street, $32,000; motor vehicle highway, $258,700; park and recreation, $127,900; cemetery, $50,575; cumulative capital improvement, $15,000; and cumulative capital development, $50,000.
In an unrelated matter, the council set trick-or-treat hours for 6 to 8 p.m.
No one spoke in favor or against the budget, during a public hearing. The ordinance establishing the 2025 budget, which also Indiana Department of Local Government later this year, was approved on first reading.

The council is also scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at town hall at 116 E. Cross St. Agenda items include an update from officials with E2praxis, a company based on Ewing, that is developing plans to walking/biking path.
Final adoption of the budget is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, during the council’s meeting.
