Girls basketball
Medora
South Central’s girls jumped on top of Medora 20-2 after the first period and rolled to a 63-18 win on the Rebels’ floor on Saturday afternoon.
Medora outscored South Central 14-13 in the second period to trail 33-16 at the half, but the Hornets were only able to score two points in the second half.
Jenna Bowers topped Medora with 14 points, and Marissa Lichtley scored four.
Medora (0-5) will host Shawe Memorial on Nov. 28.
IBCA preseason poll
The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association announced its preseason poll results on Sunday evening.
Brownstown Central was listed 11th in the entire state throughout all classes of high school basketball.
Ben Davis was listed at number one with Kokomo and Lawrence North rounding out the top three.
The Braves are looking to build off their semistate appearance last season, where they defeated Indianapolis Scecina in the first game, but fell to Linton-Stockton by eight in the championship.
Brownstown starts their season with Providence, who they defeated in the sectional in 2022. The game takes place at Brownstown Central high school at 7:30 p.m.
Benter selected to Prep Hoops All-State
Jack Benter will be a huge topic of conversation around Jackson County basketball all season long, and rightfully so.
The Brownstown Central senior recently signed to play for Matt Painter at Purdue University and he’s got some more achievements coming his way.
Prep Hoops Indiana named Benter to its Preseason All-State First Team.
Benter is alongside Flory Bidunga of Kokomo, Azavier Robinson of Lawrence North, Trent Sisley of Heritage Hills, and K.J. Windham of Ben Davis.
Bidunga has committed to play at Kansas, and Windham at Northwestern.
