Karen Sue (Ellis) Habenicht, 81, of Seymour, IN, gained eternal life on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at her home with her family by her side. Karen was born on May 27, 1942, in Seymour, Indiana. She graduated from Hayden High School in 1960 and married Roy H. Habenicht on August 27, 1961.
Karen was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Karen served on many committees within the church including Immanuel Guild, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) Ministry, and helped to prepare funeral meals. Karen was a devout Christian and loved her Lord Jesus Christ.
Karen also loved spending quality time with her family and friends. She enjoyed camping, traveling, cookouts and was always up for a game of euchre!
Karen is survived by her children, Mark Habenicht (Brenda) of North Vernon, Kimberly Campbell (Roy) of Lexington; six grandchildren, Joshua Habenicht (Beth) of North Vernon, Megan O’Haver (Blake) of Seymour, Lauren Swindell of Indianapolis, Aaron Habenicht (Gretchen) of North Vernon, Lindsay Swindell of Columbus, and Jazalene Lux (Joe) of Ohio. She was blessed with six great-grandchildren, Bryndal and Mera O’Haver, Everly Habenicht, Owen, Zoe, and Theo Lux. She is also survived by a brother, Gilbert Diggs (Patricia) of Reddington.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, her parents, Ralph and Josephine (Diggs) Ellis, and a brother Wilford Ellis (Margie).
Funeral services for Karen were held on Thursday, November 16, at 11AM, at Voss and Sons Funeral Service and Crematory. The family received guests at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, November 15 from 4-8PM and on Thursday morning, from 10AM until the time of service. Burial followed at Hayden Cemetery in Hayden, IN.
