Herbert I. McLain, Jr., age 74, of Seymour, formerly of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown.

Mr. McLain was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour.

Herb loved and cherished his family, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved cooking for his family, and he enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, hunting, and doing genealogy research.

Mr. McLain was especially proud of his Scottish heritage, as he was Governor of State of Missouri Maclean clan.

Born on August 19, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Herbert I., Sr., and Alberta Noland McLain, both of whom preceded him in death. On July 26, 1976, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, he married Joan Topie, and she survives in Seymour.

Survivors also include one daughter, Jennifer (Paul) Butler of Odenton, Maryland; one brother, Alex McLain of St. Charles, Missouri; and four grandchildren: Ronan Butler, Dieter Butler, Declan Butler, and Maeve Butler, all of Odenton, Maryland.

Herb was also preceded in death by two brothers: Mark McLain and Chris McLain; and one sister, Cindy Thomas.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Hoosier Christian Village for the loving care Herb and his family received.

Funeral services for Herbert I. McLain, Jr. will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Seymour.

Memorials may be given to the Mark Fish Scholarship Fund or Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary.
