The Owls traveled down south to Floyd Central to face the Highlanders in Week 4.

Seymour was seeking its third straight Hoosier Hills Conference victory. Seymour would lose the shootout with the Highlanders 50-47.

“It’s always tough losing a game that you felt you should have won,” Owls head coach Tyson Moore said. “Especially when you score that many points on offense. It’s a tough one to swallow, but we will keep moving forward.”

Floyd Central got the ball to start the contest, being forced to a three-and-out by the hard-nosed Owls defense to begin the game.

Seymour took over at their own 36. Owls QB Bret Perry then hit Kyle Hileman for a huge 28-yard reception down the sideline.

The quarterback proceeded to keep the next snap, getting into the end zone to put the Owls up 6-0. The point after attempt was blocked.

The Highlanders then took over at midfield, moving down the field, eventually moving into the red zone. Floyd Central eventually scored thanks to another Bernardie touchdown.

Perry led the Owls right back down the field, hitting Cameron Wheeler for a 17-yard touchdown, ending the first quarter with a 12-6 advantage.

The Highlanders came right back, behind their quarterback in Tristan Robertson, who led Floyd Central down the field, scoring with a 13-yard rushing touchdown. The Highlanders regained the lead after converting the two-point attempt.

Perry then threw an absolute dime to Jack Pennington down the sideline, scoring a 55-yard touchdown for the Owls, taking the 18-14 lead with 8 minutes left in the first half. Floyd Central ended up with the 20-18 lead at the end of the first half.

Seymour was forced to 4th-and-10 on the Highlander 36 on their first drive of the second half. The Owls decided to call timeout before they made their final decision. Perry then found Logan Shelly for the critical first down, setting the Owls up in a good position.

Jaylan Johnson then received the handoff, gaining 14 yards on the play. The Owls got to the Highlanders 1-yard line, before Perry fumbled the snap and lost the ball, giving Floyd Central the ball with 54 seconds left in the first half.

Perry then kickstarted the second half with a 19-yard pass to Jack Pennington to retake the lead at 26-20. Mitch Bernardi then scored to take the lead again for the Highlanders at 28-26.

Seymour would then battle back and forth with the Highlanders for the remainder of the second half, trading scores with Floyd Central. Seymour would lead the Highlanders 40-35 to begin the final quarter. The Owls took the lead for the final time in the final five minutes, with Perry scrambling to find an open man, he took off to the end zone. The quarterback scored for Seymour, taking the 47-43 lead.

Robertson then got the ball one last time, hitting Issac Kaiser for a 15-yard passing touchdown with 1:28 left in the game. The Highlanders took a 50-47 lead, giving the Owls the ball with one final chance to score.

Seymour would not be able to convert, dropping the matchup 50-47. The Owls fall to 2-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference.
