A man crossing the street with his daughter on the south side of Seymour on Friday night was struck and killed by a motorist who left the scene, police report.

Both the man and his daughter, who were hit by the motorist in a dark-colored passenger car, were treated at the scene in the 600 block of South Vine Street by personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services, according to a news release from Seymour Police Department Lt. C.J.Foster.

The two were then taken to Schneck Medical Center for additional treatment. The man was pronounced dead at the Seymour hospital, while the daughter was treated for injuries to her face, hand and leg, Foster said.

He said patrol officers responding to the report of an unconscious person lying in the road in the 600 block of South Vine Street found a male with no signs of life.

Officers began lifesaving measures until medical personnel with the ambulance service and Seymour Fire Department arrived.

Foster said a short time later, dispatchers received another 911 call in which an individual stated they had been hit by a vehicle. Investigators then learned the people who had been hit were a father and daughter.

He said the names of the two are being withheld because the investigation is currently active.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to call the Seymour Police Department at 812-522-1234.
