Maxine P. Duwe, 86, of Seymour passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. She was born on November 22, 1936, in Morland, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Hilda Sage Keith Hester. She married Roland G. Duwe on June 17, 1956 at Emanuael Lutheran Church in Dudleytown, IN and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2016.

Maxine is survived by her companion dog, Riley; one daughter, Jenice Carol Duwe (Kevin) Elsner; and two grandchildren, Jared Elsner and Leah Elsner. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Ramon Duwe; and one brother, Robert W. Hester.

Maxine was a homemaker all her life. Throughout her life she was a known quilter, having designed over 153 quilts. She enjoyed roller skating at the Rok-Sey Skating Rink in Seymour and could be seen during the summer months at the Seymour City Pool. Besides roller skating and spending time at the pool, Maxine enjoyed riding horses for ten years during the 1970’s and had many stories to talk about. She was a 1955 graduate of Shields High School, was employed at the Majestic Theater in Seymour and was of the Lutheran Faith.

Per Maxine’s wishes there will be no services at this time, however, a celebration of life will be when the asparagus or when the strawberries are ripe or at a later date. Memorial contributions may be in Maxine’s memory to the Reddington Volunteer Fire Department or to the Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana in Columbus.
