Betty Lou Land, 91, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:25 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2023, at home.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Ron Bridgewater will officiate. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the funeral home.

Born on August 26, 1931, in Tuttle, North Dakota, Lou was the loving daughter of Robert and Marie (Taasevigen) Robertson. She was united in marriage to Ronald (Jack) E. Land on October 21, 1950. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2002.

Lou had owned Excel Cleaners with her husband before working at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center where she retired after thirty-seven years. She was a member of First Christian Church. Betty was an avid Indiana Pacer, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Cubs, and Jennings County Panthers fan. She enjoyed going to and having yard sales, karaoke, antiques, music. She loved her old blue house on Jennings Street and was the author of two books over the years.

She is survived by sons, Ron (Christy) Land of North Vernon, and Tim (Mary Anders) Land of Seymour; daughter, Annie Land of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; daughter in law, Joanie Land of Hope; grandchildren, Melissa Cota, Josh, Molly, and Joe Land, Morgan Rimstidt, Evan, Owen, and Jack Land, and Madeline Smith; great grandchildren, Anthony and Austin Cota, Crew and Colson Land, and Natalie Rimstidt; sister, Marjorie Marsh of North Vernon.

Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marie Robertson; husband, Ronald (Jack) Land; son, Rick Land; and sister, Nellie Smith.
