Exchange Club recognizes Students of the Month

The Brownstown Exchange Club recently released the Students of the Month for December, January and February.

Madeline Gibson, daughter of Lonny and Jackie Gibson, was named Student of the Month for December.

The Brownstown Central High School senior was in the chorus for the school’s 2020 performance of “The Wizard of Oz” and appeared as Martha in “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” in 2021, as the nurse in “South Pacific” in 2023 and Fiona in “Shrek” this year.

Madeline is a youth leader at Vallonia Christian Church and works for the Boys and Girls Club of Brownstown. She plans to study speech-language pathology at Ball State University.

Senior Jaren Cunningham, son of Jason and Kelly Cunningham, was named the Student of the Month for January.

The Brownstown Central High School senior is a member of the National Honor Society, student council and Letterman’s Club and is chairman of the school’s Riley Dance Marathon. He is a member and youth leader at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Brownstown.

Cunningham played golf and football for four years. He won the golf team’s mental attitude award and was captain of the football team and received the defensive back most valuable player award.

He has spent two weeks as a junior counselor at Camp Lakeview the past two summers and volunteered at Brownstown Veterinary Clinic.

Cunningham plans to attend Purdue University to study premed.

Maddy Hackman, daughter of Stuart and Stephanie Hackman, was named Student of the Month for February.

The Brownstown Central High School senior is secretary of the National Honor Society and vice president of the senior class. She also belongs to Booster Club, Letterman’s Club, German Club and Braves Against Drugs Club.

Hackman was a four-year member of the basketball team and captain for one year. She was this year’s most valuable player and also joined the 1,000-point club this season. She received all-Mid-Southern Conference and all-Mid-Southern Conference honorable mention honors and was named to The Tribune’s all-county team and Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association all-district team.

Hackman plans to study business at Indiana University.
