Special Olympics players compete in Bedford; in action Saturday in Seymour

BEDFORD — Special Olympics Indiana Jackson County’s three-on-three basketball teams and individual skills player traveled over to the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County in Bedford for competition Sunday.

The Cyclones women’s team won their game against Lawrence County 20-12. Averie Brennan scored 12 points, and Amanda Hamm scored eight. They improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Hurricanes lost against two different Lawrence County teams 18-12 and 20-10. Dale Hickman scored 10 points and Elijah Noble had two in the first game, and Hickman scored eight and Donald Bennethum had two in the second game. They dropped to 1-3 on the season.

Owen Law was the lone skills competitor, and he got to shoot, dribble and pass for the second time this season.

The three-on-three teams and five-on-five team will be back in action Saturday afternoon at Seymour High School. They will scrimmage against Washington County at halftime of the boys varsity game against Salem, which will be around 2 p.m.

Junior varsity tipoff is set for noon with varsity to follow around 1:30 p.m. Players and coaches will get in free, while parents and fans will pay $5 admission. It’s cash only.

Then after the varsity game, all three of Jackson County’s basketball teams will play games in the auxiliary gym starting around 3:30 p.m. Washington County and Monroe County will be there.

There is no admission cost for these games. The public is welcome.
