Olen E. “Gene” Byarlay, 83, of Medora, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at his home. Gene was born on February 5, 1939, in Medora, to the late Robert &Ruby Cole Byarlay. His first wife and mother of his children was the late Joyce Piatt. On November 7, 1970, he married Betty Davidson Byarlay and she survives in Medora.

Gene was a member of Midway Apostolic Church. He worked at the Medora Brick Plant and then retired from Aisin. He loved wood working and fishing.

Survivors include, his wife, Betty; children: Randy (Tammy) Byarlay of Medora, Debbie (Danny) Wineinger of Missouri, Don (Kathy) Byarlay of South Carolina, &Connie (CJ) Jimenez of Texas; stepchildren: Tawana (Jerry) Baker of Medora, Andy (Teresa) Wayman of Medora, &Jerri Luster of Arkansas; grandchildren: Randy Byarlay, Jr., Wendy Hickman, Michael Byarlay, Jobi Hampton, Joyce Ann &Jacob Byarlay, Celina, Diego, &Andre Jimenez; several great grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; &several step great grandchildren; 1 brother, Robert Byarlay of Medora; 2 sisters: Janet Shouse &Henrietta Branaman both of Medora.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and 2 step children: Greg Williams &Pam Colwell.

Funeral services for Gene will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia with Russell Raney &Donald Wineinger officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will take place at White River Valley Cemetery, Medora. Memorial contributions may be given to Midway Apostolic Church.
