Trinity Lutheran cheer hosts successful Spirit Day

The Trinity Lutheran High School cheerleading team put on a TLHS Spirit Day last Saturday at the Bollinger Athletic Complex.

Surrounding Lutheran elementary schools all participated in the event, which started with a morning clinic from 9 to 11 a.m.

In the clinic, the teams practiced material to perform at Saturday night’s Trinity Lutheran boys basketball home game against Henryville.

Also in the morning clinic, teams stunted, did a jump competition and tumbled. The jump competition was won by Daphne May, who is from St. Peter’s Columbus.

Later that night at the basketball game, all of the teams got to perform a band dance, a floor cheer, starting lineup and a halftime dance. All of the Cougar and Hornet fans in attendance got to see the future of Trinity cheer put on a show throughout the game.

Andrea Foster, head coach of the Trinity Lutheran High School cheerleading squad, thought Saturday’s clinic was a great experience to promote cheer and help grow the Cougars’ program.

“It was neat to see the future generation of Trinity cheerleaders perform at their first high school basketball game,” she said.

Foster and the Trinity cheer team typically host a summer camp each year, and with how successful the clinic was last weekend, Foster expects the Cougars will continue doing it, as well.

“After performing, girls walked off the floor with the biggest smiles on their faces saying how fun it was to perform in front of such a large crowd,” Foster said. “We look forward to hosting the clinic for years to come.”

You can catch the Trinity Lutheran High School cheer team at most home games for the Cougars throughout the rest of the season.
