Public meeting on House District 62 recount petition set

The Indiana Recount Commission will convene a public meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday regarding the petition for recount for the election for Indiana House District 62 state representative.

The Monroe County Democratic Party has requested a recount in the election for representative after Republican Dave Hall of Norman defeated Democrat candidate Penny Githens of Bloomington by just 40 total votes.

Hall received 86.2% of the 1,020 votes from Jackson County residents. Across all districts, the margin was much more narrow with Hall receiving 50.1% of the total vote and Githens receiving 49.9%.

Overall, Hall received 12,990 votes with Githens close behind with 12,950, according to the Nov. 29 count from the Office of the Secretary of State.

The commission, chaired by Secretary of State Holli Sullivan, is responsible for conducting any recounts for federal, statewide and state legislative offices.

The meeting will be held at the Indiana Statehouse in House Ways and Means Committee Room 404, 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis.
