Seymour man arrested for sexual battery, misconduct with a minor

Patrol officers with the Seymour Police Department investigated a report on Dec. 2 that a 15-year-old female had been sexually assaulted by a 22-year-old male, police report.

The investigation was then turned over to department investigators, who conducted a formal interview with the victim on Dec. 7, according to a news release from Seymour Lt. C.J. Foster.

He said investigators located a possible suspect, identified as 22-year-old Walter Ivan Hernandez-Polanco of Seymour, on Thursday and conducted an interview with him.

During the interview, Hernandez-Polanco admitted to touching the victim inappropriately on top of and under her clothing and also told investigators he knew the victim was 15 years of age at the time of the incident, Foster said.

Hernandez-Polanco faces preliminary Level 4 felony charges of sexual battery and sexual misconduct with a minor and a Class A misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while never having received a license.

Hernandez-Polanco was booked into the Jackson County Jail at 7:44 p.m. and remained there on Friday pending his initial hearing.
