Seymour competes at Pike

The Seymour boys and girls swimming and diving teams competed in the Pike Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Both the boys and girls placed ninth overall with 130 and 108.5 points, respectively. Plainfield won the girls meet with a team score of 479.5, and Avon won the boys meet with a team score of 369.5.

Top 10 finishers for the Seymour varsity girls featured Katya Cox placing sixth in the 50 free in 26.45, Addy Castetter was 10th in the 100 butterfly 1:08.17 and Cox was fifth in the 100 free in 58.38.

Seymour’s 200 medley relay of Lauren Bode, Makenna Greenawalt, Castetter and Kylie Grove was ninth in 2:09.79, the 200 free relay team of Carmyn Wilson, Lillian Simons, Sallie Nicholson and Cox was eighth in 1:55.20 and the 400 free relay team of Wilson, Nicholson, Grove and Cox was seventh in 4:14.22.

The top 10 finishers for the Seymour varsity boys featured Paul Montgomery placing third in both the 50 free (22.24) and 100 free (50.32).

The 200 free relay team of Montgomery, Aaron Drake, Grant Smith and Lane Mellencamp placed fifth in 1:37.03, and the 400 free relay team of Montgomery, Drake, Larry Simons and Mellencamp placed fourth in 3:40.15.

The Owls will be back in action on Tuesday at home against New Albany.

Girls basketball

Braves edge out Pekin

The Brownstown Central girls basketball team picked up a huge Mid-Southern Conference win on Saturday night at Eastern (Pekin).

The Braves were able to edge out the Musketeers 41-40 on the road.

Maddy Hackman led the Braves in scoring with 14 points, Jenna Klosterman scored eight, Jo Brittain scored six, Kelsey Schneider had five, and Kalee Borden, Addison Darlage, Camryn Thompson and Sophie Wischmeier all had two points.

Brownstown is now 6-3 this season and will be at home against Salem on Tuesday night.

Boys basketball

Brownstown suffers first loss

The Brownstown Central boys basketball team took on Withrow High School from Cincinnati, Ohio, as part of the Body Armor Classic at Charlestown High School.

Withrow was able to get the best of the Brownstown 74-69 to hand the Braves their first loss this season.

Jack Benter led the way for Brownstown, topping his 36-point total he scored against Seymour on Friday night by scoring 38 on Saturday night.

Parker Hehman added 12 for the Braves, followed by Carson Darlage with six, Chase Coomer with six, Colby Hall with four and Caiden Gwin scored three.

Brownstown, now 3-1 this season, will be in action on Friday night at Scottsburg.
