City residents may apply for home repair program

The city of Seymour is applying for federal funds to provide grants to qualified homeowners for home improvement and rehabilitation projects.

These grants are geared toward elderly, disabled, female head of household and low-income residents.

The Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Grant program offers grants for home improvements up to $15,000. Services could include roof replacement, handicap accessibility, heating and cooling replacement, lighting and electrical upgrades and water heater replacement.

The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs recently announced it is seeking applications from eligible local units of government that would like to be considered for the program funded through the state’s Community Development Block Grant program.

In order to have a successful application, Seymour must show a need for such a program. That’s where city residents come in.

Applications are available at Seymour City Hall, 301-309 N. Chestnut St., Seymour.
