A two-vehicle crash in rural Jennings County on Saturday resulted in the death of a 39-year-old Versailles man, police report.

Christian P. Schular was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on County Road 650N near County Road 575E, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles of the Indiana State Police Versailles Post.

Wheeles said investigators with the post’s crash reconstruction team were able to determine that a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Jessica R. Parsons, 40, of Butlerville was traveling eastbound on County Road 650N at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

For an unknown reason, Parsons’ vehicle left the right side of the road and she overcorrected, causing it to return to the roadway and travel into the path of a westbound 2007 Pontiac G6 driven by Schular, Wheeles said.

The vehicles collided in the westbound lane of the road, Wheeles said.

He said a passenger in Schular’s vehicle, Whittney Schular, 18, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Parsons was transported to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Wheeles said.

The investigation is ongoing, and toxicology results on both drivers are pending at this time.

Wheeles said speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Assisting at the scene were officers with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department and personnel with the Butlerville Fire Department, Jennings County EMS Rescue 20 and a St. Vincent StatFlight medical helicopter.
