Seymour police continue to investigate a shooting Monday night that left a man with a chest wound.

The 42-year-old Freetown man, whose name was not released, was uncooperative with police and left Columbus Regional Health against medical advice, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster with the Seymour Police Department.

Foster said city officers were called to the 900 block of East Oak Street at 8:07 p.m. Monday to investigate a report of a male who had been shot in the chest and then had immediately left the area. According to SPD’s police log, a male reported he had shot through the window of a white Honda Civic and hit a person. That incident was reported at the entrance to Foxton Apartments at 950 E. Oak St.

Shortly afterwards, police learned the injured man had been at Schneck Medical Center but had left the Seymour hospital, Foster said.

Officers then located the man in the area of Brown and Chestnut streets. The man, who was uncooperative with police, was later taken to Columbus Regional Health by family members, Foster said.

Investigators were called to the scene and started collecting evidence and interviewing individuals.

“Currently, this is an active investigation,” Foster said.

He said investigators are working closely with the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, and no determination of criminality regarding the incident had been made Tuesday morning.
