Jackson County man found dead in pond in northern Washington County

The Indiana State Police continues to investigate the death of a 32-year-old Jackson County man found dead in a pond Saturday afternoon.

The body of Jesse J. Acton was found in the pond in the 11000 block of Haleysburg Road in northern Washington by a resident of the area, according to a news release from Sgt. Carey Huls.

Huls, the public information officer for the Sellersburg Post, said officers from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department along with state Trooper Kevin Bowling responded to the report of a body in a pond at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Detective Sgt. Dave Mitchell, Detective Mike Benner and ISP Crime Scene Technician Phil D’Angelo also responded to the scene.

Acton’s body was found at the edge of the pond, Huls said. As part of the investigation, ISP divers assisted by searching the pond for any items potentially related to the case.

Investigators said the case is currently a death investigation as they continue to gather any possible evidence and conduct interviews, Huls said.

An autopsy was performed Sunday morning through the Washington County Coroner’s Office; however, a cause of death has not yet been determined.

This investigation is ongoing.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Washington County Coroner’s Office, Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department and Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene.
