A commercial truck driver from Pennsylvania was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday evening on Interstate 65 near Austin.

At about 7:15 p.m., troopers from the Indiana State Police, other first responders and deputies with the Scott County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single-vehicle crash on southbound I-65 at the 34 mile marker, according to a new release from Sgt. Cary Huls with the Sellersburg Post.

Once on scene, officers found a maroon 2022 Freightliner had traveled into the median and collided head-on with the bridge support for the State Road 256 overpass. The driver, 53-year-old Brian Bayne, of Bakerstown, Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Scott County Coroner’s Office.

Trooper Tate Rohlfing, a crash reconstruction specialist with the state police, was called to the scene to continue the investigation. Evidence at the scene and information gathered during the investigation suggest a tire failure could have contributed to the crash.

In addition, officers called a state bridge inspector to examine any possible damage to the overpass. State Road 256 and the southbound lanes of I-65 were closed during the investigation. Both roadways are now open.

This crash remains under investigation, police said.

Emergency personnel with the Jennings Township Volunteer Fire Department, Scott County Ambulance Service and Scott County Coroner’s Office assisted troopers at the scene.
