Frog Frenzy a ribbiting experience at county fair

Indigo hopped its way to the title during the opening night of the Jackson County Fair.

The frog, named by Millie Waskom, won the age 5-9 division with a leap of 146 inches during the 17th Frog Frenzy on Sunday night in Show Arena 1 at the fairgrounds in Brownstown.

That put them in the jumpoff at the end, which they won with a leap of 77 inches. Waskom received a trophy for Indigo’s “ribbiting” performance.

Luke Cremeans and his frog, Hop Hop, won the age 0-4 division with an impressive jump of 126 inches, and Elliott Anderson’s frog won the age 10-14 category with a jump of 84 inches.

In the jumpoff, Cremeans’ frog jumped 52 inches, and Anderson’s went 34 inches.

Once again, the frog jumping contest was sponsored by radio station The Buzz 1390 and 99.3 WZZB of Seymour. It was emceed by Jay Hubbard, and Hallie Stuckwisch assisted him in recording the jumps.

Four frogs competed at a time after being placed by boys and girls on mats on the ground in the show arena. The two judges at each station marked each frog’s three jumps and measured them.

Once the top distances were determined for each age group, a jumpoff determined who would receive the trophies.
