A Marion County man died in a crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 65 at the Jonesville exit north of Seymour.

Jacob T. Peelman, 19, of Indianapolis was pronounced dead at the scene by an official with the Jackson County Coroner’s Office, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with the Indiana State Police.

Wheeles, the public information officer for the Versailles Post, said Peelman was traveling south on I-65 at about 7 a.m. when his vehicle traveled up the southbound exit ramp toward State Road 11. The gold 2004 Mitsubishi Peelman was driving continued onto the right shoulder of the ramp before hitting the rear of a parked semitrailer pulling a 2019 Wabash trailer.

The driver of the 2019 Freightliner, Anthony C. Ward, 63, of St. Louis, Missouri, was sitting in the cab and was not injured, Wheeles said.

The exit ramp was closed for about three hours for crash investigation and cleanup.

Wheeles said the investigation is continuing and that alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the wreck although toxicology tests are pending.

Officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene along with personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services, Seymour Fire Department, Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department and 31 Wrecker Service.
