BROWNSTOWN

Edith Estelle (Hampton) Ison of Brownstown entered her heavenly home on June 27, 2022, at 3:30 p.m. She was born in Jeremiah, KY, on March 29, 1929, to Willie and Evaline (Caudill) Hampton. Her beloved husband, James A. Ison, her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Edith married James Aaron Ison in Letcher County, KY, on her 18th birthday on March 29, 1947. They were blessed to be married for 67 years. Mrs. Ison was dearly loved by her four children: Dr. Aaron (Faye) Ison, Richard (Ronna) Ison, Nadine (Denny) Burcham, all of Brownstown, and Colleen (Phil) Risk of Greenwood. She was a wonderful Grandma to her 11 grandchildren: Justin Krietenstein, Russell (Cheryl) Ison, Linnea (Paul) Wellings all of Seymour; Melanie (Paul) Pottschmidt, Kelly (Jason) Cunningham, Kimberly (Cliff) Ault, Kent Burcham, Mitchell (Erin) Ison all of Brownstown; Bradley (Abby) Ison of Edgewood, KY; Jared (Catherine) Risk of Indianapolis and Emily Risk of Orlando, FL. She had 14 great-grandchildren of whom she was so proud.

Mrs. Ison graduated from Stuart Robinson High School in Letcher County, KY. She loved her church, Valley Home Old Regular Baptist in Freetown, and attended there for over 65 years.

Edith was known as a wonderful cook and loved to garden. She raised a huge garden and filled her cellar and freezer with garden vegetables every summer. She hosted family gatherings for every holiday. Some of the most fun and memorable occasions for the family were holiday barbeques that she hosted for each summer holiday. She loved to play board and card games. She was a game show fan and was able to solve every puzzle on Wheel of Fortune.

We know that all who knew her will grieve with us. She was a joy to be around. She will be missed more than words can say.

Visitation will be on Saturday July 2, 2022, at Voss and Sons Funeral Service from 1-5 pm and on Sunday at Old Regular Baptist Church on Sunday July 3, 2022, from 1pm until the time of service at 2pm. Burial will follow at Old Regular Baptist Cemetery.

Memorials may be addressed to the Valley Home Old Regular Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 4400 West County Road 540 North Brownstown, IN 47220.
