Tutors needed to help children with reading

READ Jackson County is seeking volunteers to help tutor children in reading.

Leader Readers is a program in which a group of volunteers within the community will be helping tutor children who are in need of a little extra help reading. Volunteers will offer either a one-time-on-one or group tutoring session.

The program will restart at Girls Inc. of Jackson County in Seymour when school starts back up in the fall.

Anyone interested in volunteering should email [email protected].

Library offers virtual field trip to Gulf of Mexico

As part of the Oceans of Possibilities summer learning program, the Jackson County Public Library will offer “Virtual Field Trip: Gulf of Mexico” at 5 p.m. June 29 in the meeting room at the Seymour and Crothersville libraries or via Zoom.

The Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea are dynamic and diverse ecosystems that support a wide range of life. View it on the big screen at the Seymour or Crothersville library or contact the library to request the Zoom link to view from home. The program is sponsored by Friends of the Jackson County Public Library.

Registration is required for this free program for adults and youth by going to myjclibrary.org/ events or calling the Seymour Library at 812-523-4636 or the Crothersville Library at 812-739-2927 by June 27.
